2010 International Dairy Week - GUERNSEY
The Guernsey grand champion put a feather in the cap of a witness, who had no official claim to the championship. Beck Robertson, of Crimson Daisy Guernseys, was just as proud to see Crimson Daisy Magic Pheobe win grand champion as the cow's South Australian owner, Neville Joppich.

That was because Beck bred Pheobe and she was, ironically, also the breeder behind another former IDW grand champion champion which she sold as a youngster. That cow's name is Crimson Daisy Roseblossum (owned by Mark and Roxanne Shea). Phoebe, who has been living in Tasmania made the 240km trip across Bass Strait before being trucked two more hours to Tatura.

Her campaign was marred early on by a serious bruise to her udder, which was suffered on the road to Tatura. But intense work from fitters Cam Bawden allowed the cow to be on the money on show day. Neville paid $2000 for Phoebe and now aged seven with four calves, Phoebe has more than repaid the modest investment.

Beck was just happy to see the result.

"It's awesome," she said. "To have a second championship with cattle I have sold is great and it's good that they've been looked after and their owners have had fun with them."

The last time Neville won grand champion at IDW was in 2004. He said the cow would stay on the mainland and he hoped to turn her around for another tilt at the title in 2011. She will be residing at Bushlea Jerseys at Leongatha.
