2010 International Dairy Week - HOLSTEIN PDF Print E-mail
Cairnhill Holsteins completed a dream yesterday when they snaffled the champion and reserve champion Holstein titles, best udder of the Holstein show and Grand Champion (All Breeds) at International Dairy Week under Japanese judge Tadashi Takahashi.

The cow that took them all the way was well known to the audience. Dryfield Dundee Paradise, who was bought by Cairnhill and Morsan Farms (Canada) at an IDW sale as a calf has delivered on every promise she made to her new owners with the steep price tag they accepted. Yesterday, as a five-year-old, she added senior and grand champion of the show to her former intermedaite and junior Holtsein titles. With her daughters also featuring in the show as class winners her future impact on the breed is assured.

Cairnhill had swept all before them when they left their home base in New Zealand to conquer Australia and winning IDW has been a driving force throughout drought and low milk prices for the focussed family. The final result tidies up Trevor and Rosalie Zanders' wish list and in doing so, they also picked up premier exhibitor.

Mr Takahashi used an interpreter to convey his thoughts on the class winners and his champion. Class numbers never dropped throughout the day and it was slow going as classs after class exceeded 20 exhibits. Mr Takahashi was, without question, involved in his biggest judging assignment to date and the ringside was surrounded by an engrossed audience.

Judge's comments: "Once again this is a grat uddered class, especially through the first several heifers. The first and second are a close placing with my first heifer having great scale and a upstanding, strong frame. She has smoothness and width but I don't want to take away from my second placed heifer who wins best udder of the class. She has a tremendous rear udder, extreme dairyness and she is a beautiful cow. Third over four because of her balance, correctness throughout and tremendous width to her udder. Fourth over fifth because she has a longer neck and a necer mid section."

CLASS 11 - Cow, 3yrs in milk, born 1/7/05 to 31/12/06 (17) - 1st: Chateau Park Kite Spanish (sire: Honeysuckle Marigolds Kite, Hooper, Petersen & Boyd) - 2nd: Brindabella Dundee Nana (sire: regancrest Dundee, SD & JL Sieben) - 3rd: Paringa Modest Twinkle (sire: Regancrest LH Modest, Paringa Holsteins) - 4th: Bluechip SS Roxy (sire: Pursuit September Storm, Eastview Holsteins) - 5th: Cairnhill Dundee Piper (sire: Regancrest Dundee, Zanders Family) - 6th: Moxey Farms Roy Grace (sire: Roylane Jordan, Moxey Farms P/L)

Judge's comments: "This is a nice group of junior threes, especially the top several cows. It was a very, very close placing, but my first cow is clean, angular, balanced with a nice shae to her udder. She has nice tea placement and size of tea. Second over third for a never mid section, strong loin and nicer rear udder attachement. Third has a nice frame, nice openness orib and fourth is a nice balanced cow with nice rear udder height."

Judge's comments: "My winners have a combination of great frame and great udders and my winner has an advantage in overall scale. She's deeper, stronger and nicer through the mammary system with strong fore udder attachments and her rear udder height. She places over the second cow for dairyness. She is more open in her ribs, she hsa higher udder attachements. Third over four because she has a longer neck, cealner, more udder cleft and she is deeper. Fourth over fifth for being more dairy."

JUNIOR HOLSTEIN SHOW RESULTS

Bluechip Genetics and partners dominated the early junior classes winning the first three and placing second and fifth in the fourth class. But Avonlea, Cairnsdale and Fraser Holsteins all staked their claims on the junior championship in the older, more compelling heifer classes and it was Fraser Holsteins that ultimately got the nod.

"These are beautiful, beautiful heifers," the judge told the crowd of the four heifers he pulled out for his championship consideration.

"My champion has a combination of dairy strength and nice balance. She's very well grown, she has scale and size and great balance."
