Under judge John Gardiner, of Avonlea Holsteins at Five Ways, in Victoria, the far North Queensland entry, Barron Bella Fiinalcut Hero, won her class, her age championship and finally grand champion.

Her breeder, Mark Cuda, had taken the plunge just before Christmas to float her 3000km with a midget milker, sleeping rough on the roadside and milking her every eight hours to transport her to her new home, Bluechip Genetics, just minutes from Shepparton. His plan was to get his favourite exponent some exposure. Her journey to form for IDW was helped by her big personality. She had to be plunged into a dip at the border for ticks and there were moments in that long drive when Mark no doubt wondered what he was doing.

But when John Gardiner's hand settled on her rump signalling her as his 2010 champion all that was forgotten and Mark Cuta was overwhelmed with the achievement. John was conclusive in his reasoning.

"We all like to be inspired by great dairy cows and I would suggest that this show has plenty of those kind of animals," John said. "They are the sort of young cows anyone would want to breed anywhere in the world and they would appreciate their quality. I can only pick on champion and this young cow is my champion today. She has the width, the dairy strength, the sweep of rib, hardness of top line, width of pein side and width and height or rear udder that makes her an exciting animal for the future."

Grand Champion who moved from far north Queensland recently - Barron Bella Finalcut Hero - gets the nod from judge John Gardiner. Emma Chesworth is on the halter.
